In 2021, China, Korea and Vietnam are still knowns as communist states.

The Red Flag – A communist revolution

It is certainly not a coincidence that the communist flags are all red. Beyond political and social ideologies, the red flag, which was first associated with socialism, remains the symbol of the popular masses and of social subversion. It has been the banner of struggling ethnic classes and of many revolutionaries from the Gauls to the workers' movements through the revolutionaries of the Paris Commune. It is quite natural that this anarchist symbol has imposed itself as a symbol of the proletariat and the Soviet Union. The red symbolizes the blood shed during many workers' oppression that have marked history.

The hammer and sickle: a symbolic emblem of communist flags

The flags of many communists and states include the famous hammer and sickle symbol. The hammer symbolizes industrial work while the sickle symbolizes agricultural work. The intertwining of these two tools symbolizes the union of the working class and the peasants in the communist struggle. This symbol was adopted for the first time in 1918 and appeared notably on the flag of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics. It also appeared on the flag of the French Communist Party (PCF) from 1980 to 1996.

The Red Star: an expressive communist system

The red star is another important symbol of the communist movement. This star is composed of five branches to represent the five continents and workers union in the whole world in the struggling class. This symbol is also present on the flag of many states and former communist countries: flag of the USSR, Republic of China, or Vietnam.
