The beautiful flag of the Côte d'Or - a land with a natural landscape

The flag of Côte d'Or department is an assembly of several symbolic elements.  The lower part of the flag is completely yellow while the upper part of the flag is divided into two parts. On the flagpole side, there is an azure blue background with a golden fleur-de-lys pattern surrounded by a border of white and red checks. Then on the right side of the flag, a background of yellow and blue stripes framed with a red border.

Let's get to know more about the symbolism of the different elements of this flag. The flag is an exact replica of the coat of arms of the Côte d'Or. The design on the left side of the flag represents the coat of arms of Burgundy, including the dukes of the Valois branch, and the design on the right side represents those of the Capetian dukes. The yellow color, or the golden color for heraldry aficionados, represents the "Côte" of the department where vines grow which have a beautiful golden color in autumn, hence the name of the Côte d'Or.

The Côte d'Or - 232 years later and still beautiful

On March 4, 1790, the assembly born after the Revolution created the department of the Côte d'Or. We explained in the previous paragraph the legend of the golden vineyards that gave the department its name. The name reflects the beauty of the landscape and its vineyards. The flag is proudly hoisted in the region to celebrate the 4th March, where it is brandished next to the French tricolor flag, the blue white red flag.
