The Significance of the Buenos Aires Banner

The Buenos Aires flag is a national illustration of Argentinian identity. This particular banner features a classic rectangular design showing a white background with a large, prominent black eagle at the center. The eagle is crowned in gold,  holding the red cross of Calavatra in its right wing. At the eagle's feet, four eaglets can be found. This particular design is an illustration of Spanish colonisation, materialised through the rule of conquistadors. The cross of Calavatra, waving in the open air, is a symbol of evangelism as offering a different view of society, building a new community in Argentina. As for the four eaglets found within this illustration, these birds represent the 4 main cities present in Argentina: Santa Fe, Buenos Aires, Corrientos and Conception del Bermejo. This banner is marked by colors such as black, white; red and gold.

Overall, Buenos Aires is known on an international level for its status as a prominent vector of coffee culture and agricultural farm land. Representing Argentina as one of the world's largest economies, Buenos Aires is also home to the largest avenue in the world: Avenida 9 de Julio, being 140 metres wide. This avenue extends to 4 kilometres in terms of distance: from the French embassy building to the Plaza Constitucion located further down south. As a major buzzing city, Buenos Aires comprises of the most notable architectural pieces of world history: it includes the famous Plaza de la Republicà, the tall Obelisco, the Casa Rosada, counting as a presidential venue for political meetings and administrative duties of public value and more pittoresque illustrations of Argentinian independence and identity through  La Boca - a must-see neighbourhood in the south of Buenos Aires, marked by the Caminito road

Such a variety of sites, buildings and illustrations offer different images, pictures and perspectives of Argentina as a free-spirited country marked by high economic growth, immigration and agricultural background. When thinking of Argentina and the Argentine culture or history, most people think of the national flag of Argentina. This national banner, adopted in 1812, on the day of the declaration of Argentinian independence, features a design of 2 stripes of light blue: one stripe is located at the top of the flag and the other stripe is positioned at the bottom of the banner. In the middle of this national symbol lies a white stripe on which is positioned  the 'Sol de Mayo' representing the Incan God of the Sun. This particular design was crafted by General Manuel Belgrano, an official general to the Republic of Argentine
