Fuerteventura, called "the quiet island", is the second largest volcanic island in the Canary Islands after Tenerife. It is part of the province of Las Palmas and the closest island to Africa because it is located less than 100 km from the coast of Morocco.

A paradisiacal Spanish island in the Atlantic Ocean, classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Biosphere Reserve, it is full of picturesque charm and attracts many tourists every year who come to enjoy idleness, beautiful beaches and walks in breathtaking volcanic landscapes!

Composition and symbolism of the Fuerteventura flag

The flag of Fuerteventura is divided into two distinct sections: a green vertical band (mast side) and a white vertical band (wind side).

In the centre is the coat of arms of Fuerteventura: a shield with cut edges (like a parchment) surmounted by a crown where three parts can be seen inside the shield. This shield was used in the past by militias on the island.

The first two refer to the crown of Castile and Leon where we see a golden castle on a background of gules (red) and a lion crowned, armed and lampworked Gules.

The third part corresponds to the Saavedra lineage (the lords of Fuerteventura). It is a pattern with three red chess belts surrounded by a red band with eight gold blades.
