Discover the Nevada flag, the offcial emblem of the 36th state of the USA, in our category of USA state flags. Nevada is the seventh largest state in the United States of America and its capital is Carson City. Half of Nevada's population lives in its largest city - Las Vegas. This cobalt blue flag has a 2:3 ratio and features official representations in the upper left corner consisting of a crown, a star, the state name and the inscription "Battle Born".
Why does the State of Nevada have its own flag?
All official buildings in the United States must display at least two flags: the national tricolor blue-white-red flag and the flag of the state in which it is located. It should not be forgotten that before becoming the 'United States' this country was divided into colonies, each of which had a different flag. At the end of the Civil War, all the states were united under a single banner to which they pledge allegiance: the Stars and Stripes banner, whose stars represent each of the states that joined the founding states. This tradition of state flags became famous during the exposition to mark the 500th anniversary of Columbus in 1893. Exhibitors came from all over the country and the importance of having an identifying symbol for each region was felt.
Symbolism of the Nevada State flag
The current flag of Nevada was adopted in 1991. The first version of the Nevada flag was adopted in 1905.
Battle born: The message on a gold ribbon that literally translates to "born in war" indicates that Nevada joined the United States of America during the Civil War.
The Silver Star: Nevada's flag features a five-pointed silver star mainly due to its nickname "Silver Star" in honor of its many silver and gold mines.
The two branches of sage: Below the word Nevada and the silver star are two intersecting branches of sage, which is considered the state's official emblem.
The blue background symbolizes loyalty and justice.
