The Oklahoma flag: a symbol of peace

The famous blue-flag and ensign of Oklahoma features a deerskin bone shield decorated with seven dangling eagle feathers. A pipe and olive branch run diagonally across the shield and the word Oklahoma is seen written below the shield.

The blue background of the Oklahoma banners represents loyalty and dedication. This color is also inspired by the flag flown by the Chactas, a Native American tribe during the Civil War.

The olive branch and the peace chalumet are symbols of peace in Western culture and among the indigenous peoples of America, respectively. They are placed in a cross in the center of this flag to symbolize the peace that exists between these two peoples in the state of Oklahoma.

The small brown crosses at the top and bottom of the flag are Indian signs that represent the stars. They represent the highest ideals for all societies to achieve.

Although the important elements of the Oklahoma flag have remained unchanged, the state of Oklahoma has undergone some changes in emblems throughout its history.
