Discover a wide selection of anarchist flags or banners of the anarchist movements around the world, Anarchy table flags and ideological flags of the world. Anarchism is a practice of life advocating equalityautonomy, self-emancipation, and freedom and is thus opposed to all forms of repression, capitalism, colonialism, or totalitarianism.  The word anarchism is derived from two words of the ancient Greek: an and arkhê, which literally mean absence of authority. However, the truth is that the anarchist movement is much more complex than that and includes several schools of thought that have as a common denominator to propose an alternative project of society to the one in the form of a state and that will be governed by and for the people. One of the first to adopt this ideology was Mikhail Bakunin.

Some anarchist theorists even attribute most of the social rights acquired to anarchist movements - from the French Revolution to     to the May '68 demonstrations. Many emblems have symbolized anarchism throughout history; you will find many anarchist banners in this category.

The black flag: an essential anarchist symbol

The black flag of the anarchists movements had its beginnings in the labour movement of 1840. This flag finds its origins in the manifestation of the workers in Lyon in 1831. Their motto 'Live by working or die by fighting' was transcribed in this famous black flag.

Other anarchist movements followed the step like the Russian revolutionaries led by Nestor Makno or the students who manifested in May 1968 who adopted it as a symbol of anti-authoritarian, anti-capitalism, and anti-consumerism revolt.

Some anarchist movements have subsequently modified it to differentiate themselves.

The anarcho-syndicalism flags

This movement adopted a red and black flag, the two colours are separated by a diagonal line. The black being the colour of the anarchism and the red the one of the socialists and the proletariat. It is quite normal that this movement adopted this bicolour flag. It is also the emblem displayed by the anarcho-communists and the defenders of libertarian communism.

The flag of anarchy-feminism

Anarcho-feminism was born when some feminists decided that there is no class struggle possible without abolishing patriarchy and wanted to bring a libertarian approach to feminism. Besides, one of the first anarcho-feminist publications had as epigraph 'Neither God, nor boss nor husband. The flag of this movement consists of two triangles of equal size - purple and black.

The flag of libertarian ecology

Green being the universal colour of ecology and black that of anarchism, the libertarian ecology banner combines these two colours in equal parts. The militants who carry this banner claim that only libertarian ideas can bring convincing solutions to the ecological cause and especially that the ecological problems are caused by the social problems.

The flag of anarcho-capitalism

Anarcho-capitalists claim that the state has no legitimacy to intervene in the management of capital and that it does not add any value to it and advocate self-management; But unlike other anarchic currents, anarcho-capitalists are for an unreserved acceptance of the right to private property.

The encircled A

The encircles A is a rallying symbol of all anarchistic movements. It was designed by René Darras and Tomas Ibanez. As for the source of inspiration, there are several versions, sometimes the O is inspired by the name of the anarchist militant Ravachol, sometimes it is inspired by the anti-nuclear symbol.
