Discover all the secrets of Cameroon's colours with AZ Flag, your partner for selling national flags of the world!

Among all flags, the flag of Cameroon carries the three pan-African colours: green, red and yellow. These three emblematic colours evoke the Pan-Africanism movement that promotes the political and economic independence of the African continent as well as solidarity among all people of African origin in Africa and beyond.

The green colour of the flag refers to Cameroon's equatorial forest located in the south and east of the country, a tropical and humid forest that hosts a large animal and plant biodiversity. It is also one of the largest forest massifs in Africa after that of the Congo DRC.

The red stripe bears a powerful symbolism since it represents the blood shed for the country's independence during the maquis war between 1955 and 1962!

The yellow band evokes the natural resources more present in the north of the country: the tropical zone of the savannah. Yellow also evokes the sun and life.

Finally, the last symbol on the flag is the five-pointed yellow star in the centre: this golden star represents the unification of the country under a single state. It should be noted that before Cameroon's independence in the 1960s, the country after the Great War had been divided into two parts by the League of Nations: one part was a French colony and the other a British colony. From 1961 to 1972, Cameroon was a federal republic. It was on May 20, 1975 that the Republic of Cameroon was proclaimed as a unitary state and the current flag was adopted. The national day of the country is also celebrated on this day.
