Discovery of all the symbols of Guinea-Bissau

This vexillary emblem (the national flag) was adopted in 1973, in the year the country obtained independence. It is one of the symbols representing the Republic of Guinea-Bissau with the 1973 emblem of Guinea-Bissau, the Bissau-Guinean national anthem "Esta é a Nossa Pátria Bem Amada" (This is our beloved country), the elephant's national animal emblem and finally the national motto "Unidade, Luta, Progresso" (Unity, Wrestling, Progress).

Meaning of the flag of Guinea-Bissau with AZ Flag !

The Guinea-Bissau flag consists of two horizontal yellow and green stripes on the wind side, followed by a vertical red strip on the shaft side. A small five-pointed black star is placed in the centre of the red band.

The Bissao-Guinean flag with its three colours green-yellow-red is one of the flags of the world that carries the pan-African colours such as the flag of Ethiopia, the flag of Ghana, Senegal, Mali, Eritrea, Congo, Benin and many African countries.

This flag was inspired by the colours worn by the former African Party for the Independence of Guinea and Cape Verde, which succeeded in guiding Guinea Bissau towards independence from Portugal.

The yellow and green arranged vertically represent respectively gold (a wealth as precious as African unity) and hope, for a better future and nature. The colour red, as on many flags adopted by the countries of the world in the year of their independence, represents the blood spilled during the struggle for liberation and independence of the country. Guinea Bissau also adopts a small black star whose five branches represent the five senses of the human being: sight, taste, touch, smell and hearing.
