Discover all the secrets of the history of the Guinea flag with AZ Flag !

The Guinean flag consists of three vertical stripes in red, yellow and green. It is one of the symbols of the Republic of Guinea, a West African country known as the "African Water Tower" or "Guinea-Conakry" to distinguish it from the other two Guineas (Bissau and Equatorial). The countries bordering Guinea are Guinea Bissau, Senegal and Mali to the north, Côte d'Ivoire to the east, Liberia and Sierra Leone to the south, and the Atlantic Ocean to the west.

Guinea is one of the first countries in French sub-Saharan Africa to achieve independence on 2nd October 1958. The flag of Guinea was adopted a few weeks after the proclamation of the Republic of Guinea. It became official on 10th November 1958.

It is both the national maritime flag and the national land flag of the country. According to the FIAV vexillological coding, it is represented by the symbol for its state, civil and military uses. It is the "de jure" (right) version of the official flag and flag of Guinea.

All about the colors and symbols of Guinea with the purchase of Guinean flag

The three green-yellow-red colours of the Guinean flag are like many vexillary emblems of African countries that proudly brandish the pan-African colours as a reminder of the history of the struggle against colonialism in European countries and a tribute to the country's wealth.

Thus, on the Guinean flag, the vertical red stripe recalls the memory of the blood spilled during the struggle against the French settlers during the colonial occupation and independence.

The yellow band evokes not only the sun of Africa but also the richness of the soil and land of Guinea-Conakry. Guinea has major mining and gold resources: gold, bauxite, diamond and iron. Did you know that Guinea has about 1/3 of the world's bauxite reserves? Bauxite is the rock in the ground that is used to make aluminum!

The green stripe symbolizes the country's nature, its rich vegetation: between savannah in the northeast zone and equatorial forest in the southeast zone. Green is also the colour of Islam, which is the predominant religion of the Republic of Guinea.
