Buy and Sell South African Flag: Small insights into the history of the South African flag

Among all world flags, the South African flag has six colours and is drawn in the shape of an arrow. The South Africa flag has a very original and unique composition which makes it one of the most beautiful multicoloured flags on the planet! It is one of the symbols of South Africa, one of the African countries with the highest GDP, a country renowned for its unique and painful history (colonisation, segregation, apartheid), the country of Nelson Mandela, the country of rugby and also the first African country to have organised a football world cup in 2010! South Africa is located at the southern tip of the African continent at the crossroads of two oceans of the world: the Atlantic and Indian Oceans. It borders Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe and Swaziland and Lesotho is an enclave there.

It was in 1994 that the current six-coloured flag was raised in South Africa at a historic event unique in the history of South Africa: the country's first non-racial national elections! It highlights the advent of a new South Africa that promotes mixing and not separation as well as tolerance and not racism between blacks and whites.

All the secrets about the colours of the South African flag and their symbolism

Today's famous national flag is a kind of summary of South African history, which is a rich and complex history. For example, the composition of its pattern that resembles an arrow or path is intended to be a symbol of the meeting point of the diverse elements of society that advances together in harmony for a common goal.

All colours (blue, green, black, yellow, red, white) are colours used by the country's main ethno-political groups as well as by the country's administrations. For example, black, green and yellow are the colours of the nation's former flag and those of some black African political movements and parties (such as the ANC: African National Congress). Blue, red and white are taken from the emblems of the Boer Republics (the former independent South African states founded by the descendants of the Dutch white colonizers (the Boers, the Voortrekkers and the Afrikaners). There were about twenty Boer republics in South Africa in the 19th century.

Other interpretations and values have also been given to the South African colours. For example, the colour black for the indigenous people who were on the territory before the colonization period, the colour yellow for the precious mineral resources of the soil and its gold wealth (including diamonds), the colours blue and red for all Afrikaner settlers (of Dutch descent) and English, the colour white as a emblem of peace and democracy and the colour green for African land, vegetation and agriculture. The green motif (2 lines that converge and now form only one) also represents the convergence of people who lived separately (Apartheid), the strong symbol of interracial union and the path to peace.

This national badge evokes strong human and social values for this South African country that has been strongly marked by racial hatred between blacks and whites! These are values of unity, of unification between peoples that have been embodied here in the design and motifs of the South African flag. The national flag is a symbol to show that the key to success, the best future of the South African people lies in unity, peace and progress together.
