Buy / Sell Bhutan flag: quick history and use of the Bhutanese flag

The Bhutanese flag consists of two yellow and orange triangles, followed by a white dragon. It is one of the symbols of the Kingdom of Bhutan, a South Asian country without access to the sea. As a result, this yellow orange flag with dragon is the national land flag of Bhutan and does not use a maritime flag in that country. It is therefore used by the State, the civilian domain and the military domain on land only!

The flag of Bhutan is one of the 3 UNIQUE flags of the world which includes a DRAGON with the flag of Malta and the flag of Wales!

Why is there a white dragon on the flag of Bhutan?

The "Druk" is in fact the legendary dragon of the Bhutanese mythology. It is also called the dragon of thunder! In fact, Bhutan in the Dzongkha language (Tibetan dialect and Bhutan's national language) means the land of Druk (Druk Yul) and the kings in Bhutan are the dragon kings (Druk Gyalpo). The Bhutanese national anthem is called Druk Tsendhen (the kingdom of the Druk).

Legend has it that when the first Tibetan Buddhist leader of the Drukpa lineage built the Ralung Monastery in what is now Gyantse County in northern Bhutan, a monastery surrounded by mountains, glaciers and high peaks, a great storm began to grow. The monk then decided to name this monastery after the thunder dragon. As this branch of Buddhism spread through the centuries in Bhutan, the country finally became the land of the Thunder Dragon which explains its representation on the flag of Bhutan.

Used since the 19th century, the flag of Bhutan was officially adopted in its current version in 1969.

There are three very important symbolic values behind this three-coloured flag: the white dragon Druk in its claws holds pearls that represent the country's wealth. The color yellow is the color of the Bhutanese monarchy and the color orange is the color of Buddhism!
