History of the flag of Monaco and its coat of arms !

The flag of Monaco consists of two horizontal red and white stripes of proportional size. It is one of the symbols of the Principality of Monaco, the second smallest independent state in the world officially recognized for its size after the Vatican and also the most densely populated country in the world with more than 16,000 inhabitants per km². It would be the third smallest country if one took into account, after the principality of Sealand, the unrecognized micronation of the United Kingdom, which has 4 to 5 inhabitants.

With the coat of arms of Monaco, the Latin national motto "Deo Juvante" (With the help of God), the Monegasque anthem, the Monaco flag is part of the national symbols of the Principality of Monaco, a constitutional monarchy currently represented by the sovereign Prince Albert II of Monaco of the Grimaldi dynasty, son of Prince Rainier III and Grace Kelly.

The colours of the flag of Monaco were chosen by the Grimaldi family, originally from Genoa, in the 14th century (note that the Grimaldi house is one of the oldest dynasties in the world today).

In heraldic language, the Grimaldi's armoured shield always blasts itself in this way: "tapered silver and gules", which means that the motif of the coat of arms consists of white and red rhombuses interspersed. On Monaco's coat of arms, two monks carrying a sword can be seen holding the coat of arms on either side. They represent the conquest of Monaco by François Grimaldi "le Rusé". This Genoese who had been driven out of Genoa was able to conquer Monaco due to a subterfuge. He disguised himself as a Franciscan monk to enter the city incognito and open the Monegasque fortress to his soldiers. Historically, he is considered to be the founder of the Principality and 1st Grimaldi of Monaco.

In Monaco, the red and white flag of 4/5 proportions has been the civil flag and the merchant flag of Monaco since April 1881. This flag, apart from its nuances and shape, resembles another flag of the world: it is an exact copy of the flag of Indonesia.

The State flag is a white flag decorated with the coat of arms of Monaco with the same measures as the civil flag.

The last famous flag of Monaco is the Princely Standard: it is a flag with a white background on which the monogram of the Prince in red (the two symmetrical letters) . A corresponding to the reigning Prince Albert II) are placed, topped by the crown of Monaco. Each time the prince is replaced by his successor, the monogram on the prince's standard also changes.
