Purchase / sale of the flag of Northern Ireland: the flag at the Cross of St. George and the hand of Ulster

The Northern Irish flag, known as the Ulster banner, consists of a cross of St. George, a +-shaped cross found on the English flag, with in its centre a red hand of Ulster in a white star of David, all surmounted by a crown.

It is one of the symbols of Northern Ireland, one of the four constituent nations of the United Kingdom along with England, Wales and Scotland. In fact, the Ulster banner has not been the official flag of Northern Ireland since 1972, but the former flag of the Northern Ireland Government. It was the Union Jack, the flag of the United Kingdom, that replaced it as the official flag of Northern Ireland when the Northern Irish Parliament was abolished in 72.

Today, it remains a sporting and political symbol for the Northern Irish. It is used, for example, by the Northern Irish football team and the country's athletics team.

The Christian symbol of the cross of St. George represents membership in the United Kingdom, the Crown of England and the unionist and loyalist ideology of Northern Ireland (union with the British Crown) which is opposed to Irish Republicanism (freedom of the Irish and independence of the Crown). This puts this Northern Irish flag in the category of cruciferous flags of the world (flags with a Christian cross).

The symbol of the Ulster hand in the center is known as the Ulster bloody hand (Ulster bloody) or more commonly the Ulster red hand (Lamh Dearg). According to Irish legends, it embodies the hand of a Scandinavian Viking clan leader Heremon O'Neil who seized the northern (far north) shore of Ireland in 1015. O'Neill, who was competing against another clan leader, was to touch the Irish coast first. Legend has it that O'Neill, having fallen behind, cut off his hand, threw it overboard before his opponent and thus became king of Ulster. The Ulster region is one of the four historic provinces of the island in the northern part now shared between Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland. It was governed by the O'Neill family until 1333.
