The flag of New Zealand, officially adopted by New Zealand (parliamentary monarchy) in 1902, was created in 1869. The model of the New Zealand flag with a 1/2 ratio is based on the Blue Ensign, the flag used by the British state with the very famous Union Jack flag (Union flag) in the upper left canton on the mast side. The flag of New Zealand is a national emblem of New Zealand alongside the silver fern, kiwi, southern flower, Southern Cross and the beautiful national anthem entitled "God defend New Zealand".

New Zealand Flag Sale: The history and origins of the New Zealand flag!
As far as the flag history is concerned, New Zealand, poetically nicknamed the "Land of the Long White Cloud", is a country of Oceania, located in the South Pacific Ocean formed by two large islands and many other smaller islands. Its national flag and state flag consists of the Blue Ensign (flag with a blue background and in the canton the Union Jack flag) where four red stars have been added to the white borders on the right side of the flag. The four stars form the design of the stellar constellation of the Southern Cross, a recurring symbol on the flags of many countries in the Southern Hemisphere.
Like Australian flags, New Zealand flags are flags derived from the colours of the United Kingdom flag, a reminder of their membership in the Commonwealth, an intergovernmental organization of 53 member states formerly under the aegis of the British Empire. Examples include the New Zealand Merchant Navy flag composed of the Red Ensign and the Royal Maritime Flag with the White Ensign.
In 2016, New Zealand proposed to change the national flag to its population by referendum for the white silver fern flag on a black background (national badge also used by the world famous All Black national rugby team and symbol of Maori culture) to replace the part of the flag with the Union Jack. The silver fern, an endemic plant of New Zealand, was well known to the Maori, the island's indigenous people, who used it as a means of orientation in the forest. The population will cut and keep the existing flag at 56.6% against 43.1%. In our online store range, you will also find black New Zealand flags with fern, as well as Maori flags!
