Discover the flag of Ohio, the offcial emblem of the 17th state of the United States, also called the "Buckeye State", in our selection of US states flags! The Ohio flag was adopted on July 10th 1902. Ohio is a state in the Midwest of the United States and is home to the 7th largest population in the country. Ohio got its name from an Iroquois word meaning 'good river'. Indeed, this state has the same name as the famous river that borders it. The state of Ohio is bordered by Michigan and Lake Erie in the North, to the east, it is bordered by Pennsylvania and West Virginia, Kentucky and West Virginia and the Ohio River to the south, and the state of Indiana to the west. This state fought alongside Union during the Civil War. In addition to its flag/pavilion, Ohio has several other emblems: Ohio's flags and pennants are the only US state flags that are not a rectangle.

Symbolism of the Ohio State flag
As mentioned above, Ohio's tricolor flag is one of the few state banners that is not rectangular but is shaped like an irregular pentagon. It has five red and white stripes on the right, on the left is a blue triangle with 17 stars and a white disc with a red disc in the centre to form an O. This banner has the same colors as the US flag ; the United States of America.
- The triangles on the official flag of Ohio represent the hills of the state which are also found on the seal.
- The stars representing the 13 founding states of the United States are grouped around the circle that represents the northwestern territory of the country. The four stars at the end of the triangle bring the total number of stars to seventeen as Ohio is the 17th state admitted into the United States of America.
- The white circle with its red centre represents the first letter of Ohio.
