Palestine Flag Sale: Discovering the origins and meaning of the Palestinian flag

The flag of Palestine consists of three horizontal stripes: black, white and green, followed by a red triangle. These are the three Pan-Arab colours from the flag of the Great Arab Revolt led by Hussein Ben Ali in 1916 against the Ottoman Empire. These three colours are used in many flags of the current Arab countries of the Middle East as well as on the flags of Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates and Iraq.

The Palestinian flag is one of the symbols of the Palestinian Autonomous Territories, a region of the Near East. The Palestinian territories include the West Bank and Gaza Strip territories that are in Israel to date.

The Palestinian territories are considered as an area occupied by the United Nations today. Palestine is today a proto-state (a state in formation) that strongly aspires to total political independence and has the desire to officially constitute itself as the "State of Palestine". Since 2012, the Palestinian proto-state has been a non-UN observer.

To date, this vexillary symbol of dimension 1/2 has been the emblem of the entire Palestinian people as a civilian flag and commercial flag since 1988.

The other symbol of Palestine: the Palestinian coat of arms

The coat of arms of the Palestinian Authority has also been the emblem of Palestine since 1988. The Palestinian coat of arms consists of a shield with pan-Arab colours (red, green, black, black, white) surrounded by the Saladin eagle with an Arabic inscription under the shield saying "السلطة الفلسطينية", which translates into the motto "Palestinian Authority". The Saladin's eagle is a heraldic symbol found in many national emblems of Arab countries such as the flag of Egypt or the national coat of arms of Iraq.
