The different uses of the Ivory Coast flag

The Ivorian flag consists of three vertical stripes: orange, white and green. It is one of the symbols of the Republic of the Ivory Coast, a West African country that gained its independence from France in 1960.

The flag of Côte d'Ivoire is represented by the vexillological symbols for flag and flag of the world and by the FIAV (International Federation of Vexillological Associations), i. e. it is the de jure () version of the national flag and national flag of Côte d'Ivoire, the use of this emblem officially described in the law of the country. The first line of the symbol shows the land use of the flag for civil, state and military use respectively. The 2nd line represents its use as a maritime flag (or flag) in order from left to right for civil use, state use and use in the navy.

The Côte d'Ivoire flag was adopted on 3rd December 1959 some time before the proclamation of the independence of the Ivorian State. This rectangular flag has a height/width ratio of 2/3. It is a three-coloured flag with vertical stripes of the same width in orange, white and green from the shaft.

The trio of shades used by Ivory Coast represents the country's symbolic values as well as its attachment to its land and its geographical particularities.

Thus, the orange band reflects the Savannah lands located in the northern part of the country. This region of the Savannah is located a few kilometers from Mali and Burkina Faso. It is populated by the Malinke, Senoufo and Fulani herders. It is a region that has a great agricultural wealth with cotton production in particular.

The white band of the Ivorian flag refers to peace. As on many flags of the world, white is used as a universal sign of peace. The last vertical strip of green colour evokes both hope (the expectation of a better future) and the forest region of the South of the country given that the heritage of Ivorian forests corresponds to an area of 6,000,000 hectares!
