Buy / Sell Macedonia Flag, history of the flag in the yellow sun: sun of ancient Vergina

The original ancient Macedonian flag is inspired by the symbol of the Vergina sun, the ancient symbol of the Argéades of a sixteen ray sun. This flag was contested by Greece, which considers the Vergina sun as an emblem of the cultural heritage of Ancient Macedonia (Greek state of northern Greece) and refused to allow a Slavic country to display this motif. In order to ease the tensions and controversy between Greece and Macedonia that could have hampered trade relations between these two European countries, Macedonia adopted a new flag in 1995 with an eight-beam yellow sun on a red background largely inspired by the previous one.
